MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte commented on another official other than fired Interior Secretary Ismael Sueno when he met with the Cabinet on Monday, a spokesman said.
However, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said he could not say whether Duterte "berated" the Cabinet official.
"It’s just like, you know, it’s just like comments. It was just… These were just comments," he said.
Although he refused to name the executive, Abella said it was just one other than Sueno.
"As far as I know, just one. One other," he said.
Sueno was removed from his post at the end of the 14th Cabinet meeting. In a statement Tuesday, Abella said Duterte fired Sueno due to "loss of trust and confidence."
On Sunday, Duterte hinted at firing a government official for supposedly being stubborn.
Asked if Sueno was the one Duterte pertained to, Abella said though he does not know Duterte's mind, "based on the facts and based on history, this may be the one that he was talking about."
Pressed if another high-ranking official may soon face the ax, Abella said "it all depends on how the Cabinet responds."
