MANILA - Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday reiterated her electoral victory over former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, even as she admitted losing to the latter's supposedly vast social media machinery.
Robredo alleged Marcos has utilized social media to propagate rumors that she is afraid of his election protest, which questioned the results of the May 2016 vice-presidential race.
"Talagang talo tayo sa propaganda. Iyung bawat galaw -- o kahit wala pang galaw -- mayroon na talaga silang kwento. Kaya nga sabi ko dati, mahirap talagang kalaban ang Marcos," she said in an exclusive interview with radio DZMM.
"Sila ang may capability; iyung infrasructure nila sa social media, in place. Mahirap talagang kalabanin kasi tayo, wala naman tayong resources."
(We have lost in the propaganda front. They have a story for our every move, sometimes even before it happens. This is why I've said that the Marcoses are difficult foes. They have the capability, their infrastructure in social media is in place. We don't have that kind of resources.)
Marcos, who lost to Robredo by roughly 200,000 votes, has called on the Supreme Court to order a recount of votes due to alleged irregularities in 662 voting precincts.
Robredo said her legal team has questioned why Marcos submitted affidavits for only 54 of the municipalities covered by his protest.
"Hindi natin pinapa-delay ang recount. Ang tinatanong lang natin ay nasaan ang iba mong ebidensya. Sinasabi mong mayroon kang proof ng pandaraya, nasaan yung proof mo?" she said.
(We are not seeking to delay the recount. We are only asking where their evidence is. He claimed he has proof of electoral fraud, where then is the evidence?)
"Sigurado ako sa aking panalo. Wala naman akong capacity na dumaya kaya mas makakabuti sa akin na mas mabilis na ma-resolve ito. Mas magiging solid ang aking mandato," she added.
(I am certain of my triumph. I am not capable of cheating so it would be better for me if this is resolved immediately. My mandate would be more solid.)
