ABRA - Classes in 11 schools in Malibcong district in Abra province were called off from March 15 until next week as government forces conduct clearing operations against members of the New People's Army, education officials said.
The suspension of classes was declared after suspected NPA members occupied the Malibcong Police Station Monday, wounding 5 cops.
"May mga dumarating kasi na information sa atin na some of the pupils and some of the teachers, medyo reluctant na silang pumasok sa paaralan," Jan Nowel Peña, Department of Education Abra program specialist, said.
(We received information that some pupils and teachers have been reluctant to go to school after the attack.)
The official resumption of classes in the district may be adjusted "depending on the progress of operations" conducted by the police and military, Peña said.
