Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Tuesday denied Senator Panfilo Lacson's claim that he is hatching a destabilization plot against President Rodrigo Duterte.

"I categorically deny na meron akong pinaplano o gagawing kudeta o destabilization. Kaya wala rin kailangang pondohan ng sino man," Trillanes said in a statement.

He issued the denial after Lacson said Monday that Trillanes and retired SPO3 Arturo Lascañas were part of a destabilization plot against the Duterte administration.

Lacson questioned Lascañas' public confession about the alleged Davao Death Squad (DDS), and Trillanes' support for the self-confessed DDS hitman. Lacson said it was obvious that the two were part of a plan to bring down the Duterte administration.

But Trillanes rejected Lacson's allegations.

"Si Lascañas at (Edgar) Matobato ay nagsasabi lang ng katotohanan para mamulat ang taong bayan tungkol kay President Duterte. Ngayon kung nayayanig sila dahil dito, problema nila yun," Trillanes said.

Trillanes also took a swipe at Duterte, who said on Monday that mining companies are supporting a destabilization plot against him.

"Bukod pa rito, ang mga mining companies ay mga kaibigan ni Duterte kaya nga hindi nya maimplement yung suspension order ni Sec. Gina Lopez," Trillanes said.

He also accused Duterte of being a friend of drug lords.

"Kaibigan rin nya ang mga drug lords kaya nga wala pang nahuhuli ni isa at puro mahihirap lang ang napapatay," Trillanes said.

The Senate committee on public order chaired by Lacson ended its probe on Lascañas' testimony about the DDS after just one hearing.

Lacson said they terminated the probe as senators were left unconvinced about Lascañas' claims.

Trillanes said senators ended the probe because they did not want to offend Duterte.
