Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Monday believes that the testimony of former SPO3 Arturo Lascañas and the support given to him by Sen. Antonio Trillanes are part of a destabilization attempt against the Duterte administration.
"He (Lascañas) was hopping sa TV and radio stations. Ano ang audience? At sinabi ni Sen. Trillanes during the hearing na noong tinatanong niya si Lascañas, 'di lang senador dapat makarinig kundi sambayanang Pilipino," said Lacson.
"They are actually eyeing a bigger audience. Not just sa loob ng Philippines kundi pati international community kaya nga malaki ang pakikialam," he added.
Lacson said he is familiar with destabilization attempts.
"Naging part ako ng destab during the past administration. Not under President Aquino, before that. And I know a destabilization activity when I see one," said Lacson.
Lacson, who heads the Senate Committee on Public Order that recently held a hearing on Lascañas' latest testimony, said it was obvious that Lascañas' public confession about the alleged crimes of the Davao Death Squad (DDS) was meant to destabilize the Duterte administration.
"Ano ba aim? Bakit pursigido ipalabas o ma-prolong, ma-extend ang hearing? Isa lang naman eh. To bring down this administration," Lacson said.
The Senate wrapped up its investigation into Lascañas' claims after just one hearing.
Lacson says it is his duty to prevent destabilization acts which are not in accordance with the Constitution.
"I think it's incumbent upon us being public officials ourselves and even a common Filipino, ordinary Filipino, na gumawa rin ng hakbang para 'di mapabagsak sa illegal na pamamaraan. Kasi meron naman constitutional na pamamaraan para maialis mo a ng isang Pangulo na sa tingin mo 'di sumasang-ayon sa Constitution," Lacson said.
Trillanes has defended Lascañas, and alleged that the Senate ended its probe into the DDS because senators were afraid to offend Duterte.
