BUTUAN CITY -- A drinking session among sawmill workers turned tragic when an unidentified gunman wearing a motorcycle helmet fired at them, killing 2 and injuring 4 others on Saturday night.
Casualties were identified as 21-year-old Lemuel Batoon and Patchez Lanugan. Batoon sustained a fatal gunshot wound in his left chest while Lanugan’s body was riddled with bullets.
The injured victims were identified as 31-year-old Virgil Morata, Fre Ian Guillen, Bernabe Durango and Albert Penelangco. Morato is still in critical condition, while the 3 others only sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Police said none of the victims are on the drug watchlist.
This is the second brutal attack by a lone gunman in Butuan City for the month.
Last week, 33 year-old Chinese national Assley Lian was shot in front of his apartment in Barangay Tandang Sora. Lian died in the hospital.
Manuel Batoon, the father of Lemuel, believed the shooting incident is because of the government’s drug war.
Authorities have yet to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
