President Rodrigo Duterte received former senator Juan Ponce Enrile in a "social" meeting at the presidential palace, Malacanang said Thursday.
"Thank you for giving me this honor to meet you again," Enrile said as he shook Duterte's hand in footage of the Wednesday meeting that was released by the Palace.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella described the meeting as a "brief and cordial meeting capped by a photo opportunity. He could not say if graft charges against Enrile were brought up during the "social call."
Malacanang officials were not immediately available for comment on the meeting when contacted by ABS-CBN News.
The meeting came a few months before the former senator's pre-trial for graft. He is accused of misusing his "pork barrel" or discretionary funds.
The defense and the prosecution panels in the case were given until May to hold preliminary conferences before the pre-trial begins on June 26.
