A notorious leader of a kidnap-for-ransom group operating in Zamboanga Peninsula was killed by police forces in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay early Tuesday morning.
Police identified the alleged bandit as Imam Yasin, who has a standing arrest warrant for murder issued by Judge Reubin Maraon of the Regional Trial Court in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Yasin allegedly led a lawless group in Zamboanga Sibugay that conducted kidnap and extortion activities against local officials and businessmen in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Reports said Yasin, who was armed with an M14 rifle, engaged incoming operating personnel of the Special Action Force. A SAF man identified as PO2 Larry Falitnang of 84th Special Action Force Company, was wounded in the incident.
Two other members of the Yasin-led-group identified as Aujaie Moh Abdul and Murad Mohammad were also arrested.
The government forces also recovered a cellphone and some documents believed to be containing data of the group’s future plans.
The arrested bandits are now under police custody for interrogation.
