PUERTO PRINCESA CITY - Puerto Princesa City first councilor Nancy Socrates finally took her oath as the new Vice Mayor of Puerto Princesa City, replacing Luis Marcaida III who took oath as the new City Mayor.

Socrates took her oath early Thursday after receiving an order from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to assume the position.

The vacancy in the mayor's post came after DILG dismissed Mayor Lucilo Bayron last February 10, 2017.

Bayron was found guilty of grave misconduct and serious dishonesty by the Office of the Ombudsman for failing to declare that his appointed VIP Security head is his son.

In an interview, Socrates explained that she initially just wanted to sit as acting vice mayor but her lawyers explained she needs to take oath in order to execute the powers of of a vice mayor.

She also added that there was an important document that needed to be signed early today which prompted her to take oath before office hours.

All of the members of the city council were present and supported the oath taking ceremony of the new vice mayor.

The new vice mayor added that she currently doesn't have any plans with her post because she is positive that Mayor Lucilo Bayron will still find legal remedies for his dismissal.
