MANILA - The lawyer of Vice President Leni Robredo has full trust that the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, will preside over a fair trial in relation to the protest filed against his client.
“Wala naman kaming problema. We always trust the Supreme Court, the entire members of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal. We believe in their integrity, their competence, and their fairness in deciding this case," Atty. Romulo Macalintal said in an interview with ANC's Headstart.
The PET on Thursday denied Robredo's petition to dismiss losing vice-presidential bet Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos’ protest.
The tribunal rejected Robredo's arguments that it had no jurisdiction over the case and that Marcos' complaint lacked form and substance.
Although Macalintal said they are filing for a motion for reconsideration, their camp however is unfazed by the development, confident that the findings of the PET will be in favor of Robredo.
"Hindi kami natatakot sa kasong ito. We are confident that after all these process, Vice President Robredo will still emerge as the winner," he said.
In a separate interview with ANC's "Headstart" taped on February 15, Robredo maintained that "all the allegations are not really backed by evidence."
She said Macalintal had dared Marcos' lawyer to sign a memorandum of agreement that in case their would be able to prove that those SD cards really contain proof of electoral fraud, Macalintal will turn over his license as a lawyer.
"He didn’t respond to it, and we took it as a sign that he was just really bluffing," she said.
