A woman died in a flash flood brought by tropical storm Basyang in Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental early Tuesday morning.
Authorities identified the fatality as 71-year-old Gaudiosa Lania.
Giovanni Enabe, head of city disaster risk reduction and management office, said Lania, together with her daughter, crossed a footbridge made of bamboo.
Lania and her daughter fell into the creek after the footbridge gave way.
Lania's daughter survived after she got hold of a tree and clung to it.
The septuagenarian, however, was swept by the strong current.
Her remains were retrieved by authorities Tuesday afternoon, some two kilometers away from where she fell.
Preemptive evacuation, Enabe said, was implemented after they monitored spillover in some rivers because of heavy rains.
Roads are now also passable following a clearing operation after a landslide occurred in Barangay Hilaitan and Barangay Maniak.
