MANILA - The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved on final reading a bill proposing the creation of a Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development.
A total of 193 lawmakers supported the bill while only 6 lawmakers voted against its creation.
The measure aims to address housing needs and concerns of Filipinos.
It will merge the existing Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council or HUDCC and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).
It reconstitutes the HLURB as the Human Settlements Adjudicatory Commission which shall operate as an independent quasi-judicial body within the department.
The bill will also attach to the new department the National Housing Authority, Home Guaranty Corporation, National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation, Home Development Mutual Fund and Social Housing Finance Corporation. --With a report from Robert Mano, ABS-CBN News
