Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested the nephew of Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza in Davao City Thursday for possession of illegal drugs.
PDEA agents arrested John Paul Dureza, nephew of the presidential peace adviser, and John Anthony Huilar in a drug buy-bust inside Dureza's home in Catalunan Pequenio.
Recovered from the suspects were nearly 15 grams of shabu with a street value of 225,000 pesos, a .22 rifle and 177 pieces of ammunition.
PDEA Director 3 Adzhar Albani said Dureza has long been in the agency's watch list for selling drugs to prominent families in Davao City.
"Kasama siya sa validated watchlist namin then tina-trabahao namin nang matagal. Other cohorts niya nahuli na so mga prominent family ang binibigyan nya ng druga," he said.
In a Facebook post, the President's peace adviser confirmed the younger Dureza is his nephew.
"I slept early last night ( still on sick leave but feeling okay) only to wake up early to be informed that one of my nephews was arrested by PDEA for drugs. I am of course embarrassed as he is a close relative," he said.
"But I commend the authorities for enforcing and applying the law without fear or favor. That's the way this no-nonsense drive of President Duterte should proceed."
The younger Dureza and Huilar have refused to give a statement about the arrest.
