A group of dolphins was seen swimming near the coast of Calbayog City, Samar on Monday, a rare sight for locals.
Based on the pictures taken, there were about 10 dolphins sighted off Carayman village. Authorities said they could be pilot whales, which measure around 6 feet long.
Pilot whales are among the largest members of the dolphin family, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
The Provincial Fishery Office of Samar said there had been several sightings of dolphins in Calbayog waters since April 2017, when the campaign against illegal fishing was initiated.
