MANILA- San Beda College, which counts President Rodrigo Duterte among its alumni, was granted university status by the Commission on Higher Education on Tuesday.
The announcement was made by the The Bedan, the official student publication of the university's College of Arts and Sciences.
In a statement, CHED said the college "complied with the requirements for the university status as stated in CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 46, series of 2012."
"San Beda College-Manila is the second privated HEI that was evaluated and passed the rigid standards of CHED," it said.
Established in 1901, San Beda is a private Catholic college run by Benedictine monks.
It has campuses located in Mendiola, Manila and in Rizal and Alabang.
