Vice-President Leni Robredo's legal counsel on Tuesday said he is willing to surrender his license to practice law if the camp of losing vice-presidential bet Ferdinand Marcos Jr. can prove its claim of electoral fraud in the secured digital cards.
Atty. Romulo Macalintal said their camp wants the nation to know which of them is saying the truth, and dared the Marcos camp to prove its claim of massive cheating in the 2016 elections.
Marcos has asked the Presidential Electoral Tribunal to overturn Robredo's proclamation and instead declare him the winning vice-presidential bet in the May 9 elections.
After the Commission on Elections found data in some supposedly unused vote counting machines used in the last elections, Marcos spokesperson Victor Rodriguez claimed that it strengthens their position that there was cheating in the polls.
Macalintal, however, challenged the Marcos camp to prove this claim, or otherwise ask for the nation's forgiveness.
"Ang hamon ko nga sa kanila, 'tong bagay na 'to, patunayan niyo yan, otherwise, humingi kayo ng tawad sa taumbayan," he said.
He said if the Robredo camp is found guilty of electoral fraud, he vowed to surrender his license to practice law.
- report from Johnson Manabat, DZMM
