ILOILO CITY - The legal troubles of the former mayor of this city are not over even after he left the country, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Sunday.

Former mayor Jed Mabilog left the Philippines with his wife and children before the Ombudsman last year dismissed him for approving an allegedly anomalous towing deal and failing to declare the sources of his wealth.

President Rodrigo Duterte had also linked Mabilog to the illegal drug trade.

At this point I'd like to assure you that former [mayor] Mabilog's flight from the country is not the end of his legal problems," Roque told reporters.

"Let's just say there is an ongoing investigation, if they decide to file a case then extradition, of course, is an option," he added, declining to elaborate.

Mabilog has denied his alleged links to the narcotics trade. He has not made a public appearance after his dismissal and his camp has kept mum about his whereabouts.
