DAVAO CITY — Some 1,000 cacao and mahogany trees were planted Saturday morning in a hilly portion of Barangay Santo Niño, Marilog district.

Despite the rain, many joined the Kapamilya Punuan Movement including high-school students, police, military and residents, spearheaded by ABS-CBN Davao as part of TV Patrol Southern Mindanao's 27th anniversary.

The activity aims to promote environmental awareness among residents and to help restore the forest covers in the city.

Ryan Revilla, project monitoring officer of CENRO Davao, said the tree planting activity is timely, considering the recent flooding in some areas in Davao region.
