MANILA - A 78-year-old man died in a landslide triggered by prolonged rain in Kalunasan, Cebu City on Saturday.
The fatality, identified as Calixto Taburnal Sr., was cleaning his backyard in Sitio Lokana around 12 noon when huge rocks and soil crashed down from a cliff near his house, his son and namesake said.
Taburnal was sandwiched between the debris and the wall of his house.
Rescuers carved a hole on the wall to pull out the victim's body but he succumbed to his injuries before his body was recovered at around 1 p.m.
Taburnal's son this was the first time that a landslide occurred near their backyard where his father planted vegetables and often did chores.
