BALABAC, Palawan - Three local fishermen in Palawan were arrested after 15 dead green sea turtles were found in their boat.

Authorities identified the fishermen as Senal Javira Albi, owner of motorbanca named Sacrifice 2017, Koko Montong Jaen, and Krosley Kulang Suleman, owner of a small motorbanca.

A joint task group composed of the 12th Marine Battalion, the Philippine Navy, and Balabac police was conducting a joint seaborne patrol in the waters of Barangay North Mangsee, Balabac last Monday when they chanced upon the two motorbancas.

Upon inspection, they discovered the 15 dead green sea turtles.

Authorities also confiscated an ax, a kitchen knife, a knife with scabbard, a pair of gloves, and a mask from the alleged poachers.

The suspects and the motorbancas are now under the custody of Balabac police.

The authorities will file a case against the suspects for violation of RA 9147 (Wildlife Act) and Sec. 95 of RA 8550 (Fisheries Code of the Philippines) as amended by RA 10654.
