MANILA -- (2nd UPDATE) Several local government units (LGUs) suspended classes on Monday, January 9, due to Tropical Depression "Auring."
As of 9:30 p.m. Sunday, classes have been suspended in the following areas:
Bayabas, Surigao del Sur
Cagwait, Surigao del Sur
Tandag, Surigao del Sur
ELEMENTARY AND HIGH-SCHOOL (private and public)
Lapu-lapu City, Cebu
"Auring," the first cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in 2017, made landfall over Siargao Island on Sunday afternoon.
It was packing top sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 75 kph, state weather bureau PAGASA said in a 8 p.m. bulletin.
"Auring" will also dump moderate to heavy rains over provinces within its 300-kilometer diameter.
