Nine foreign crew members of a Chinese cargo vessel were rescued by authorities in Pambujan town, Northern Samar on Tuesday afternoon.

Among the passengers of the C/V Jing-Ming No. 16 were 6 Chinese nationals, two sailors from Hong Kong, and a Taiwanese.

According to local police, the crew members sought help when they encountered rough waters brought by tropical depression "Agaton."

The vessel was docked off the coast of Barangay Poblacion 2.

Members of the coast guard, police and military conducted the rescue in a joint operation.

The sailors were then brought to the residence of the Pambujan mayor following a physical examination at the town's rural health unit.

Local police learned that the vessel left China on December 12 and was on its way to Chile when it encountered huge waves and strong winds.
