ILOCOS SUR – Four people were arrested in the province for firing their guns to welcome the new year.

Arrested in Narvacan town were 36-year-old businessman Gerald Arconado and his relative Ronald Datugan.

They were caught by authorities firing a cal. 9mm a few minutes after welcoming 2017.

A concerned citizen had reported continuous firing in Arconado’s residence in Barangay Turod.

Authorities immediately responded to verify the report.

When the police arrived at the place, they saw Datugan holding the gun.

Arconado owns the licensed cal. 9mm gun. He also has a permit to carry firearms outside residence.

“Gabi pa lang ng December 31 may mga naririnig na na putok dito sa amin kaya nakakatakot din ang lumabas. At the same time, nakakaalarma dahil baka may matamaan ng ligaw na bala,” said Brgy. Turod Chairman Wendell Viloria.

“Upon receiving the report, agad na pumunta ang tropa natin doon to verify, at nang makarating sila doon, naaktuhan na hawak ni Datugan ang baril at nakahanda na nitong iputok kaya agad na silang nahuli,” said Narvacan, Ilocos Sur Chief of Police – Chief Inspector James Patrick Calibuso.

A case of alarm and scandal has been filed against the two, who were detained at the Municipal Police Station.

They refused to be interviewed.

Meanwhile, PhP 10,000 in cash will be given to the concerned citizen who reported the incident to the authorities.

Last December 30, Narvacan Mayor Zuriel Zaragoza announced that the local government unit will be giving rewards to those who will report incidents of indiscriminate firing.

Meantime, 2 other incidents of indiscriminate firing were recorded in Ilocos Sur.

On the night of December 31, a security guard of Candon City Health Center, identified as Alexander Ferrer, was arrested after firing his service firearm while having a drinking spree in his residence in Barangay Tamurong 1st, Candon City.

He admitted to firing his .38 caliber revolver twice.

At dawn of December 31, former Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel Allan Crisostomo was arrested after firing his cal. 38 at the Municipal Plaza in Barangay Poblacion Norte, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur while a fireworks display competition was being held.
