Still elated over their recent win, the camp of presidential hopeful Grace Poe has called Supreme Court's (SC) decision to let her run for president a "victory for democracy."

Valenzuela City Mayor and Poe spokesperson Rex Gatchalian told Mornings @ ANC Friday they view the decision as “key to democracy,” noting that SC’s decision only shows how compassionate and just the country’s laws are.

"We view this decision as a key to democracy, number one, it enshrines the right of every individual, of every Filipino, even the downtrodden, even the foundlings, it shows how compassionate and just our laws are, it shows that are laws were crafted to protect and not further malign people," he said.

He said the decision is a “victory for democracy” as it has upheld everyone's right to choose in the May 9 elections.

“Second, it’s a victory for our democracy because this coming election everybody will be given a fair chance to be able to select from a complete list of candidate, nobody will be disenfranchised, every vote will count and the right to choose is upheld," he said.

Gatchalian added it is now time to move on and shift the focus to candidates' platforms.

“I think it’s about time that we all move on, it’s time that we respect the decision of the Supreme Court, we have all subscribed to the process, including Comelec, including all the parties. Now it’s time to move on and focus on what’s important, platforms of governance,” he said.

He has also called on critics to respect the SC decision.

Meanwhile, Gatchalian said they are expecting Poe's survey ratings to increase by around 8 to 10 percentage points now that the legal issues have been resolved.

“There are so many people who probably shifted support, who were sitting on the sidelines because of these legal issues, but now that it’s been resolved, we think and we believe that the bounce will be around 8 to 10 percentage points,” he said.

He also said they are confident the SC decision will embolden people from different walks of life to offer support for Poe.

“This decision is a milestone because it will embolden people to support her no matter where you are, whether you’re a big businessman, a small businessman, whether you’re an SME owner. The important thing is people will come out and support her whether in kinds of financial support or logistical support, or even time, a lot of people would wanna devote time as means of supporting her,” he said.
