'Quinta' claims 3 lives in E. Samar

MANILA, Philippines – Three people have been confirmed killed in Eastern Samar due to tropical depression “Quinta," authorities said.

Office of the Civil Defense Region 8 Director Rey Gozon said the casualties were members of a family in Maydolong, Eastern Samar.

A large tree crushed their home, killing the father, mother and one of the children.

Another child was hurt in the incident and was rushed to a hospital.

The OCD has yet to release the names of the victims.

Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for a fisherman who went missing in Merida, Leyte.

Quinta made landfall in Leyte on Tuesday, but slightly weakened as it crossed the Visayas region.

It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday.
