Guard killed in Western Union robbery in Cavite

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) -- A security guard was killed in a robbery incident at a Western Union branch in Imus, Cavite on Wednesday, police said.

Police Supt. Rederico Maranan, chief of Imus Police, said a security guard at a nearby Cebuana Lhuillier branch was shot dead by one of the four suspects who robbed the Western Union branch in Barangay Bucandala at around 1 p.m.

The victim was identified as Eric Jimenez, 37.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was shot by one of the robbers when Jimenez saw them entering the Western Union branch.

He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Imus Police are now conducting pursuit operations against the suspects, who escaped on board two motorcycles.

Authorities, meanwhile, have yet to determine the amount of cash stolen by the suspects. -- Reports from Eric Dastas and Arnell Ozaeta, dzMM
