Two suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group escaped the provincial jail in Basilan at around 9 a.m. Wednesday, an ABS-CBN Regional Network Group report said.

Initial reports identified the escapees as Jannatin Majakin and Aramil Sulaiman, both suspects in the beheading of Marines in Albarka, Basilan in 2007.

Authorities said 10 inmates were brought outside the provincial jail to get some sun when one of the inmates allegedly grabbed the firearms of provincial guards Romel Adsal and Sayalun Ajilul. The guards were wounded after a brief scuffle with the inmates.

The police arrested four of the seven inmates who were involved in the jailbreak.
