MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit Ormoc City, Leyte on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 07:58 a.m. Its epicenter was located 10 kilometers southeast of Ormoc.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin which means it was caused by the movement of a local fault. It had a depth of 14 kms.
Earthquake intensities were felt in the following areas:
- Intensity IV - Dulag, Tolosa, Ormoc City
- Intensity III - Palo, Tacloban City
- Intensity II - Leyte, Leyte
Phivolcs said aftershocks or damage to property are not expected from the earthquake.
