MANILA, Philippines – Tropical storm Sendong (international name: Washi) is expected to make landfall in the vicinity of Puerto Princesa in Palawan around 2 a.m. on Sunday, a PAGASA weather forecaster said.
PAGASA’s Mario Palafox said the storm has maintained its strength, still packing maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
Palafox said the storm continues to move westward at a speed of 22 kph.
Public storm signal warning number 2 remains hoisted over Palawan, while Cuyo and the Coron group of islands are under storm signal number 1.
Sendong is expected to strengthen as soon as it exits the Philippine Area of responsibility by Sunday night between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m.
