MANILA, Philippines – Members of the Philippine Navy were able to rescue 15 people in Iligan City, which was badly hit by tropical storm “Sendong” (international codename: Washi).

The Philippine Navy reported that the Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Jose Loor Jr. saved the 15 off the coast of Barangay Bayog, Santiago.

The crew of BRP Jose Loor Jr. spotted several persons floating helplessly along the coast of Iligan.

The victims were reportedly washed away to the sea following a landslide in Barangay Bayog.

Eleven of the 15 victims are in good condition and are now in one of the evacuation centers in Iligan.

BRP Jose Loor Jr. is a one of the Navy’s patrol boats dispatched to conduct search and rescue operations.

Two other navy ships, BRP Jose Andrada and BRP Alfredo Peckson (PG 372), continue their search efforts in the coastal areas of Iligan City and Lanao del Norte.
