MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – The Philippine National Police Regional Office of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-ARMM) has sent letters to gun holders reminding them to renew their firearm licenses.

This, after they created 3 Special Operations Task Groups that will monitor security in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur and Basilan, which are included in the priority list areas of the coming 2013 polls.

Based on the records of PRO-ARMM, there are 6,915 firearm licenses in Maguindanao which are not yet renewed while there are 2,452 in Lanao del Sur. Data in other provinces are still being processed.

Chief Supt. Mario Avenido said 20% of the gun owners have already complied.

"Ang effort naman natin ay ‘yung bawat isa ay sinusulatan at personal pa itong dine-deliver ng mga police personnel natin sa kanila at pinapa-receive ng maigi," said Avenido.

The official, however, admits that some of the owners are no longer living in the address registered at the Firearms and Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Supervision Section.

PRO-ARMM continues to remind gun holders to immediately renew their licenses before the implementation of the gun ban or else their firearms will be considered loose firearms.
