Floods hit 9 villages in Negros Occidental

MANILA, Philippines – Strong rains on Thursday caused flooding in 9 villages in EB Magalona town in Negros Occidental.

Authorities said some 4,714 people in the province were affected by the floods.

Worst-hit by the floods was Barangay Tabigue, where around 900 individuals were affected.

The Tabigue River overflowed, forcing residents to use boats to travel.

In Barangay Damgo, 605 people were affected while 568 others were hit in Barangay San Jose.

Floodwaters in Barangay 2, where 566 people were affected, reached knee-deep.

Agricultural products across the province were also damaged by the floodwaters.

Local officials have sought assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6 to provide relief goods to the affected families. -- Report from Romeo Subaldo, ABS-CBN News Negros
