ILOILO, Philippines - Residents of Barangay Ilaya Poblacion in Lambunao in Iloilo province are alarmed by the gradual soil erosion in their community.

Ming Lemoso told ABS-CBN News team that the upper portion of the National Highway in the village started to erode last month.

Lambunao Mayor Reynor Gonzales said that 5 barangays in their town are also threatened.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Region 6 has identified the danger zones and recommended evacuation from areas near high slopes.

Gonzales said he has already referred the problem to the provincial government.

He said the municipal engineer’s office is monitoring soil movements in the area.

The local government is just waiting for the approval of its budget for the construction of roads and repair of damaged school buildings.

Various environmental factors are said to have caused the erosion.
