MANILA, Philippines – Three children died after a fire hit a house in Mabalacat, Pampanga on Wednesday morning.
Victims Vincent Sunglao, 5; Kevin Sunglao, 4; and Cate Laguna, 2, died after fire hit their house in Pineda Subdivision in Barangay Dau at around 10 a.m.
The victims were rushed to Saint Raphael Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival due to suffocation.
Vincent and Kevin's sibling said the victims were playing with matches before fire occurred. Fire officials, however, have yet to determine if this incident indeed caused the blaze.
Freddie Sunglao, Vincent and Kevin's grandfather, was outside the house when the fire began.
He blamed the firefighters for allegedly being late in responding to the fire.
"Kung naging mabilis lang yung pag-aksyon nila e di sana nailigtas pa yung mga apo ko... Masakit to kasi apo ko yung mga yun e," he said.
Fire Senior Inspector Rodel Medina, Mabalacat City Fire Marshal, for his part, said firemen did not fall short of their duties.
"Wala po kaming pagkukulang... Sa katunayan mayroon tayong isang bumbero na na-injure dahil sinubukan niyang iligtas yung mga bata," Medina said. – report from Javie Dizon, ABS-CBN News Pampanga
