MANILA, Philippines - No geohazard map was found for typhoon-devastated New Bataan town in Compostela Valley, according to University of the Philippines National Institute of Geological Sciences Professor Mahar Lagmay.
He said it was only during a simulation conducted Wednesday that they found out New Bataan is a flood-prone area.
Lagman said one of the factors that may have caused deaths in Compostela Valley is that the residents did not know where to evacuate.
Although there were early warnings, most of the locals did not know which areas were safe and which were hazardous. - ANC
