MANILA, Philippines – The local government of Cagayan de Oro City has ordered the suspension of classes in the entire city as typhoon "Pablo" moves towards land, threatening Visayas and Mindanao.
CDO Mayor Vicente Emano said the suspension took effect at 2 p.m.
The city's disaster management officials have also raised alert level to code blue, prompting a preemptive evacuation among residents living in areas vulnerable to flooding.
PAGASA, in its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, placed Misamis Oriental under storm warning signal no. 2.
Pablo is expected to cross over Cagayan de Oro, the city worst hit by tropical storm "Sendong" last December 16, 2011.
At least 1,268 people, mostly in CDO and Iligan City, died due to Sendong's fury. - report from Primy Cane, ABS-CBN News Northern Mindanao
