MANILA, Philippines – Two suspects in the shooting of PBA basketball player Ali Peek last year have been arrested.
The suspects, identified as Orlando "Orly" Hernandez and Carlos "Carling Ramos" Pangilinan, were arrested in Nueva Ecija after over a year in hiding.
Hernandez served as the gunman, while Pangilinan served as the lookout in the shooting of Peek outside RFM gymnasium in Mandaluyong City last November 7, 2011.
Peek, a center-forward for Talk N' Text, survived despite being shot in the neck.
Nueva Ecija Police revealed that the two suspects were gun-for-hire men. Hernandez also has another pending murder case.
Hernandez admitted to shooting Peek, but claimed that the basketball star's shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
He said he is willing to coordinate with authorities and identify the mastermind and the person they were supposed to kill.
Hernandez and Pangilinan are facing frustrated murder chages. – report from Noriel Padiernos, ABS-CBN News North Central Luzon
