MANILA - Less than 8 hours after a fire destroyed more than 60 houses in Barangay Calamba in Cebu City Thursday, another fire broke out in Sitio Sewak in Barangay Bulacao killing a 3-year-old girl and injuring her mother.

Six houses in Sitio Sewak were totally burned.

Jonahbel Tabura reportedly slept earlier than usual because of a fever. She was not able to get out of her family’s burning house.

Jonahbel's mother Mary Jane, meanwhile, suffered a second degree burn.

The fire reportedly started in the house of the Taburas at 6:37 p.m. and spread to other houses.

A lighted candle that fell down is believed to be the cause of the fire. Jonahbel's grandmother Terry Tabura said that 2 days ago, she cut off the supply of electricity to her daughter Mary Jane's store due to a disagreement.

A friend, Sandine Sebrado, said that Jonahbel slept shortly after they stopped playing but soon after the room where the girl slept was suddenly covered in flames.

The fire was placed under control after 35 minutes.

Damage was estimated to be at P150,000.

Fire trucks of the Cebu City Fire Department were unable to penetrate the fire scene reportedly due to a narrow passageway.

Neighbors, however, reportedly helped put out the fire using water from a canal and from a water pipe owned by a businessman. Randy Jainar, ABS-CBN Central Visayas
