MANILA, Philippines - An Abu Sayyaf fighter linked to the kidnapping of 51 people in Basilan was arrested while shopping in a mall in Zamboanga City earlier this week.

Authorities identified the suspect as Algaber Said alias Abu Talha, a member of ASG under the command of Khadaffy Janjalani.

He has a standing warrant of arrest issued by Basilan Court for kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

Said is among 50 suspects who kidnapped 51 kids at the Tumahubong Elementary School and Claret High School on March 20, 2000. The victims were held captive for 3 months until their release on June 17, 2000 in Jolo, Sulu.

Said was caught in a shopping mall in downtown Zamboanga City.

He was captured by a joint team of the National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine National Police-Special Action Force and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Zamboanga City.

He was brought to the NBI-WEMRO office in Zamboanga City where he was temporarily held.

Said is now in the NBI main headquarters in Manila for detention.
