Suspect in UPLB student's slay surrenders

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The suspect in the killing of a University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) student has surrendered.

Benigno Nayle Jr., tagged in the killing of UPLB Agriculture student Maria Victoria Reyes last November 19, surrendered to the Tanauan City Police in Batangas after being convinced by his grandfather, Gonzalo Atienza.

Nayle went in hiding in Atienza's house in Barangay Sambat, Tanauan after being tagged in the murder last Monday.

Nayle was allegedly seen leaving the house of the Reyes family around noon that day.

He allegedly took off with some of Reyes' belongings such as laptop, cellphone and some cash.

Nayle was brought to the Laguna Prosecutor's Office for inquest proceedings. He was then detained at the Camp Vicente Lim. – report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
