Suspect in UPLB student's slay named

MANILA, Philippines – Authorities have identified a suspect in the killing of a University of the Philippines – Los Baños student on Monday.

Laguna Police Director Senior Supt. Fausto Manzanilla said two witnesses tagged Benigno Nayle, 19, in the killing of 3rd year agriculture student Maria Victoria Reyes.

Reyes, 19, was found with multiple stab wounds inside their house in Barangay San Vicente, Biñan City. She was rushed to Perpetual Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.

Witnesses said they saw Nayle, a former resident in the area, leaving the Reyes residence before the victim's body was discovered.

Police said an undetermined amount of cash owned by Reyes was also missing. They have launched an operation to capture Nayle, who had been previously charged with robbery, physical injury and direct assault.

Reyes' remains are currently in Biñan Funeral Homes. – report from Ronilo Dagos, dzMM
