MANILA, Philippines – A total of 357 passengers got stranded after their ship ran aground off Surigao City on Tuesday morning.
M/V Filipinas Dapitan, a passenger-cargo vessel, left Cebu Monday night for Surigao City carrying 357 passengers.
However, at around 6 a.m. Tuesday, the ship ran aground around 200 meters from the port of Surigao City where it was supposed to dock.
According to the ship’s captain, strong winds brought the ship to a shallow part of the sea.
Another ship tried to tow M/V Filipinas Dapitan but failed because of the low tide.
Authorities then decided to transfer the passengers to another ship.
The passengers arrived in Surigao City at around 8:00 p.m.
Divers were sent to check the condition of the ship. – Report from Charmaine Awitan, ABS-CBN News Caraga
