MANILA, Philippines – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has welcomed the rise in investments in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the latest of which is the Del Monte Fresh Produce banana plantation in Maguindanao town.

MILF 1st Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar said they welcome any development in the region that leads to progress as long as these developments benefit the Bangsamoro and native inhabitants in the area, and will not create havoc among the people.

The official also stressed that although the MILF welcomes the developments in the region, this should not be used as propaganda by those in position.

"We welcome the development pero huwag gawing propaganda ng iba, let's admit it na ito ay dahil sa magandang usad ng talks," Jaafar said.

The MILF also welcomed peace and development initiatives for the Bangsamoro people.

Last week, the ARMM and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) signed a deal on peace and development cooperation in MNLF communities within the region that will help former combatants and their families.

"Kahit anong grupo na tungo sa kapayapaan ay welcome development sa MILF yan pero sana hindi nagkasundo para isabotahe ang framework agreement at ang Bangsamoro government," Jaafar stressed.

ARMM is one of the major entities that the MILF claims in the territorial issues in the framework agreement. The ARMM is rich not just in agriculture fields but also in mineral deposits and oil reserves.

ARMM OIC Governor Mujiv Hataman earlier said the rise of investments in the region is due to good governance seen in the ARMM and the recent signing of the framework agreement between the government and the MILF.
