Newspaper circulation manager shot dead in GenSan

MANILA, Philippines - A circulation manager of a newspaper in General Santos was shot dead by unknown gunmen before dawn Friday.

Alfredo “Dodong” Velarde was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding men along Mahogany Street in Rosario Village at around 3:50 a.m., according to Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz.

Velarde, the circulation manager of local paper “Brigada News”, sustained 4 gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Personal grudge was seen by the police as the motive behind the killing. – Report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
