MANILA, Philippines – A pawnshop in Dagupan City was robbed by seven armed men, who are allegedly members of the "Martilyo Gang" on Saturday morning.

A security guard said the robbers came past 9 a.m. when he was about to open the pawnshop along A.B. Fernandez Street.

He said the suspects threatened to kill him if he did not let them in.

Using hammers, the suspects broke open the pawnshop’s glass cabinet and stole an undetermined amount of jewelry.

The seven suspects then immediately sped away on board four motorcycles.

Local police and personnel of the Public Order and Safety Office immediately responded to the area and tried to run after the suspects.

The suspects, however, were able to escape after they fired at the police.

Police said the robbers then boarded a van, which served as their runaway vehicle.

Initial investigation showed that the suspects were possibly members of the "Martilyo Gang" because of the manner the robbery was conducted.

A manhunt operation has been launched against the suspects. -- Report from Nevi Calma, ABS-CBN News Dagupan
