MANILA, Philippines – A blast occurred near the house of President Quirino town, Sultan Kudarat Mayor Emilio Salamanca in Tacurong City Thursday evening.
Supt. Gilberto Tuzon, Tacurong police chief, said the explosion occurred at a vacant lot near the house of Salamanca along Lapu-Lapu Street at around 7:30 p.m.
No casualty was reported.
Police and bomb experts arrived at the blast site about an hour later to search for more explosives.
The search only yielded fragments from the grenade. An investigation revealed that the explosive used was a 40mm high-explosive, dual-purpose (HEPD) grenade, which was fired by a launcher.
Police said the grenade hit the palm of a 30-foot tall coconut tree.
Authorities have yet to determine whether Salamanca was the target of the blast, which occurred a day after a fragmentation grenade was thrown in a public market in Esperanza town.
The Esperanza blast left 4 people injured namely Rudy Subanga, Sheena Shanga and Liezel Gonzaga and a certain Delna.
