MANILA, Philippines - Four people are facing criminal charges before the Department of Justice in connection with the murder of Vigan City Regional Trial Court Branch 20 Judge Reynaldo Lacasandile last October 4.

The National Bureau of Investigation-Manila Death Investigation Division formally submitted its transmittal documents for the conduct of Preliminary Investigation where Lacasandile's widow, Vilma Lacasandile, filed murder charges (violation of Art 248 of the Revised Penal Code) against Benson Alviento, Henry Galapate, alias "Temy" and Rodrigo Urmin, all of Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The information sheet said Lacasandile was walking along the national highway in Barangay Lacong, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur towards the bus station going to Vigan City at around 4 a.m. when he was gunned down by Alviento.

The NBI said it has 3 witnesses who could point to Alviento as the gunman and the rest as co-conspirators, including one of the suspects, Urmin.

Urmin issued a statement confessing that he was recruited by the three other suspects to gun down Judge Lacasandile.

Lacasandile succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the chest.

The complaint also includes three still unidentified males as suspects.
