A regional trial court judge was hurt after two-motorcycle riding gunmen ambushed him in front of his home in Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental, Friday night.

Initial police investigations said Guihulngan City RTC Judge Mario Trinidad was in front of his home in Barangay Poblacion, when the assailants fired several shots at him and his unidentified bodyguard.

The judge and the bodyguard were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. The bodyguard expired, reports said.

Police said the main target of the hit was the judge and it could have been related to one of the cases he was handling.

The police said they are also looking into the possibility that the judge's hitmen were members of the communist movement New People's Army.
