ZAMBOANGA CITY – Unidentified men left a letter to the City Mayor Celso Lobregat Jr. after bombing an abandoned church before dawn Saturday.
Residents of Barangay Talon-Talon said they heard the blast at the San Isidro Labrador church past 1 a.m.
Police responded to the church several hours after the bombing. They said the residents failed to immediately report the blast.
Investigators said the church's steel fence was partially damaged by the blast, which, police said could have been caused by a grenade. No one was reported hurt in the blast.
Zamboanga City police bomb squad members recovered grenade components at the blast site.
Police also recovered a letter addressed to Lobregat, but declined to disclose its contents. The letter was placed inside an envelope, placed in a discreet area of the abandoned church, police said.
The letter has been brought to the police's crime laboratory for finger print lifting.
