Anti-narcotics operatives on Tuesday arrested 12 people, including a barangay councilwoman, in a drug raid at a suspected "shabu market" in Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City in Negros Occidental.

Police said Elpidia Quiatchon, councilwoman of Barangay Zone 4, was the maintainer of the shabu market and one of the suppliers of prohibited drugs in the city.

Quiatchon, meanwhile, questioned the legality of the raid saying the operatives did not have a search warrant.

Chief Insp. Rico Santotome, chief of the Negros Occidental police's Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force, said there was no need for the operatives to secure a search warrant because the operations was a buy-bust.

"They supply and disburse illegal drugs in the area. They also have small-time runners selling drugs in nearby villages," said Santotome, adding that the buy-bust was conducted after a series of surveillance and evidence gathering operations.

Santotome said 11 other people were arrested during the raid.

Seized at the supposed shabu market were 8 sachets of suspected shabu worth P5,000, drug paraphernalia, 6 cell phones, more than P2,000 cash and P1,500 worth of marked money.
